GET TO KNOW US

Picture
My name is Carli Ferron and I started Northwoods Training Kennel LLC in 2013. I dropped out of college because it wasn't for me and I really didn't have a clue what I wanted to do. I was offered an apprenticeship for four months and quickly found my passion. Since then it has been quite a wild ride. I've learned a lot through this business not only about dogs, but also about myself as a person.

Through a lot of trial and error, stacks of books, dvds, and imaginative thinking, I built NTK to what it is today. It's important to always keep learning, never assume you know it all, and always keep an open mind with every dog.

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH BSK

In 2018 we partnered with Bob Schaaf and Badger State Kennel LLC. I was working on my breeding program and Bob showed interest in partnering after receiving his first two British Labradors through me. Since then, he has helped us expand on our selection of young dogs to choose from to use as breeding prospects in the future. Bob shares the passion for the dogs as well as the standards of what not only a true British Labrador is but also what a well mannered sound minded dog should be to be enjoyed by family's and competitors for years to come.

Thanks to Bob's stake in our program, we will have really exciting things happening in our future!

What to expect when you send your pup/dog to NTK....

Feeding
  • We are on a twice a day feeding schedule for all dogs. This splits up their intake and increases absorption of the nutrients in the food.
  • We do use supplements for dogs that need it. This can vary from weight gain supplements to probiotics.
Cleaning
  • We spray down morning and evenings. Kennels are disinfected, rinsed, and beds are washed.
  • We empty water buckets and refill everyday.
  • We disinfect buckets everyday with wysiwash.
  • Kennel is vacuumed 1-2 times per week.
  • Keeping their environment clean is important to everyday care.
Training
  • It takes a week or two usually for your dog to adjust to everyday life here at the kennel. The rules are the same for every dog. If you have a puppy being raised here, they don’t need to adjust.
  • I train as little as 1 time per day and as much as 3 times per day depending on what we are doing. Depends on the dog, what part of training we are on, and the dogs training style. Some dogs can’t handle 3 times a day and some crave more.
  • I am NOT a photographer. While I do provide pictures occasionally through training, this is not what you are paying for. You are paying for the everyday interaction, training, and care of your dog. Photos are a perk, an extra….  I am one person running this operation with occasional help.
  • Operating a kennel is like milking cows, you have feed and chores twice a day, maintenance, and then you have to train the cows.  I’m on my feet usually a 9-14 hours a day.
Updates
  • I will say upfront, I do update when I can but I go in streaks. Sometimes I’m good at it and other times it may be a month. Depends on my work load, training we are doing, and so on.
  • No news is good news. I know this is difficult method but it works and it gets you to detox from your pet. Its important to recreate a healthy relationship with your dog. If I have issues I will call you or contact you when I have issues.
Dogs Are Dogs
  • When you send a dog off for training its like sending them to bootcamp. We strip them of everything they know and give them a new set of rules and guidelines to abide by. Some dogs adjust fine and some can’t at all. If they can’t, I send them home.
  • Dogs mature at different rates. Some litters have all different personalities and training rates. I go at the dogs pace. I do as much as I can with the time given, and I don’t send them home till they make their criteria if it’s a started dog.
